April PSA – 30 Seconds: Foundation for Chiropractic Progress

iPods & Blackberrys

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, a not-for-profit organization, says that I-Pods, Blackberrys and handheld games can be actual pains in the neck.

People may not realize how much looking down at a gadget can worsen neck, back, and shoulder problems. The longer you tilt your head down, the harder your muscles work to keep you from falling forward.

Doctors at the Foundation W W W DOT  F-O-U-N-D-A-T-I-O-N  4 C P DOT COM suggest holding the gadget at eye level.  Only spend ten minutes or less with your head down looking at the device.  Another good tip is to take your device and plug it into your keyboard or computer when you are at home or the office.  There are also exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles in your back and neck.
