NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER This months issue includes the following achievements:
Rice Helps F4CP Reach Records in Media Coverage The Foundation continues to break records. As some may remember, the first was accomplished in 2006 at the start of our campaign. After only three months in operation the campaign became recognized as the longest, continued public relations effort in the history of the chiropractic profession. We are now entering our fifth year of generating positive press. We achieved over one billion messages in 2010 and expect to exceed three billion in 2011. Recent record breaking performance - In less than one week, the Foundation's pre-arranged interviews with NFL great Jerry Rice appeared in five major newspapers and aired on three popular sports radio stations, and the results did not stop there - the story was syndicated and spread virally nationwide. The list of publications featuring the article included: San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Sun Herald, Oakland Tribune, Monterey County the Herald, Press Democrat, BleacherReport.com, Contra Costa Times, Boston Herald, Chicago Sun-Times, Fox Sports on MSN, DailyBulletin.com and Marin Independent Journal. Across the country, millions read about Jerry Rice's experience with chiropractic and his role with the F4CP. Below are quotes taken directly from the article published in the San Jose Mercury News, October 11, 2011: "Rice, as always, remains a man on the move. Besides his new job as an analyst for ESPN, he has taken a role as a spokesman for the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. Rice is on a goodwill circuit for the foundation this week." "He had twice-a-week chiropractic appointments during his playing days - a regimen he learned from former running back Roger Craig in 1986." "After taking so many vicious hits and all that, your body is going to get out of alignment," Rice said. Rice continues to seek treatment in retirement and found it extra helpful during his "Dancing with the Stars" competition." Every positive story published teaches the public more about the value of chiropractic care. October - A Month to Remember in Chiropractic While Rice's stories buzzed in the media, the F4CP worked with Dr. Ted Carrick to develop and distribute a press release to over 10,000 news sources, sharing Carrick's success in treating the serious concussion sustained by NHL super-star Sidney Crosby. With previous weeks hosting a series of major media events, including a press conference and an article published in Maclean's, broadcasting the success of Carrick's treatment, the release quickly became a story of interest. Click here to read the release in its entirety. Generating even more coverage. Following the release of Crosby's story, the Foundation decided to send out another release highlighting chiropractic. This story announced that the Federal government had awarded the University of South Florida (USF), School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences $1.42 million to research the effectiveness of specific exercise interventions for reducing the risk of back injuries amongst some of the nation's most vulnerable - firefighters and military personnel. Both studies, a first of their kind, will be led by John Mayer, D.C., Ph.D, associate professor and Lincoln College Endowed Chair in Biomechanical and Chiropractic Research at USF. Chiropractic team doctors Ralph Filson, D.C. of the Cardinals, and Michael Gazdar, D.C. of the San Francisco Giants, explain that regular chiropractic care provides baseball players with proper spinal function and balance to reduce the risk of spine-related injuries, enhance recovery time and improve overall performance. Jason Motte, relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, shares, "I had issues with my shoulder and arm for a long time. I started seeing Dr. Filson this year. Since then, I have not had any arm problems. The whole team appreciates him and the work he did throughout the season. I know while being under Dr. Filson's care, I was able to feel 100 percent while on the mound." Maximizing Exposure with F4CP Contributions – National Advertising The Foundation maximizes contributions by purchasing remnant space in major national publications. Meaning, due to the Foundation’s not-for-profit status we are able to purchase great ad spaces in prominent publications at a fraction of retail price. Though certain restrictions are commonly associated with these discounted ads, they are well worth it. Understand the savings. In publications including Sports Illustrated, Wall Street Journal and USA Today remnant discounts can cut up to 90 percent of typical retail costs. To further leverage these purchases the F4CP places ads in publications predominantly in locations that the Foundation will be visiting in the near future. For example, during NCLC in March, an ad was purchased in POLITICO - a niche publication favored by members of Congress. More recently, ads have been purchased in the Wall Street Journal with scheduled run dates during weeks that the Foundation is participating at business conferences. Some examples include:
To view more of the Foundation's ads, visit: www.f4cp.org Room Dedication: A Special Evening for a Special Person The Thayer Hotel at West Point, New York, was built by General Douglas McArthur in the early twenties, during his time as superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Since then, it has become the center for numerous conferences and historical events. Last Wednesday evening, Retired Brigadier General Becky Halstead, spokesperson for the F4CP, was honored with a room dedication at the historic hotel (it displayed such an event). Other honorees to receive a room dedication on the fourth floor of the Thayer include: Generals McArthur and Petraeus. Over 130 individuals from the military and chiropractic community along with Becky's family and friends participated in the reception and formal dedication. Becky's room, which overlooks the Hudson River, was painted with her colors and included photos depicting various periods of her career. Along the wall outside of the dedicated room is a bronze plaque which includes her name, career and the recognized sponsor - Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. An image of this plaque appears below.
Participating as the masters of ceremony were Dr. Sal Minicozzi, part-owner of the Thayer Hotel and Kent Greenawalt, founder, F4CP. Those guests who also presented during the program, included: Dr. Keith Overland, president ACA; Dr. George Curry, representing the ICA; Dr. Kate Rufolo-Dreher, president, COCSA; Dr. Frank Nicchi, president, New York Chiropractic College representing the Association of Chiropractic Colleges; Dr. Guy Reikman, president, Life University; Dr. Carol Ann Malizia (Becky's doctor); State Senator William Larkin; Mayor Nicolas Valentine; and Colonel Donna Brazil, a faculty member at West Point and former classmate of Halstead. Recognizing a Few Special Sponsors Though the dedication plaque recognized the Foundation as the main sponsor, funding specifically came from a few of the Foundation’s strongest supporters. The following organizations deserve to be recognized for their significant contribution made in Becky's honor: Foot Levelers, Standard Process, Performance Health, Northwestern Health Sciences University and Parker University. Impacting the Media in New York and Dallas In celebration of Becky's historic event, the Foundation invited members of the media to interview her prior to the dedication. The following lists a few of the media outlets that took an interest in Becky and the event.
In addition to media surrounding the Thayer event, Halstead also participated in two CBS interviews - one radio and one TV - in Dallas, TX on Veterans Day. Look to the Foundation's website, www.F4CP.com, to listen to the segment featured on CBS radio. December issue of Employee Benefit Plan Review to Feature an Article by Dr. Clum A byline written by Dr. Gerard Clum, spokesperson for the F4CP, validating the cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy of chiropractic along with showcasing the high patient satisfaction rates associated with the care, will be featured in the next issue of Employee Benefit Plan Review. This article is one that significantly displays the value of chiropractic care and will help to positively impact professionals within the employer/healthcare community. Employee Benefit Plan Review is written for decision makers who buy, administer, design, install and service employee benefit plans. Editorial covers the entire spectrum of employee benefits including retirement plans, Sec. 401(k) plans, health and disability plans, international benefits, work and family initiatives, employee stock ownership plans and executive programs. Please look to the Foundation’s website to read this article in its entirety, upon being published. The Foundation has planned another fundraising effort to help expand its number of monthly contributors – postcard mailers. The Foundation is sending out postcards to doctors in California and Illinois highlighting the special media coverage mentioned above. Considering the broader coverage throughout October, we will also be designing and mailing a special card to thousands of additional doctors nationwide. Look at what we are accomplishing with 2,300 monthly contributors. Imagine what we can do with 5, 000 or even 10,000. There are so many reasons to support this campaign and we strongly urge that both you and your colleagues show your support in every way you can. F4CP Webinar on Social Media - A Success On November 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. EST, Dr. Jason Deitch, founder, Fan Page Generator and social marketing advisor, F4CP, hosted the fifth webinar in the Foundation's 2011 series entitled, "A Chiropractor's Guide to Succeeding in Social Marketing." Dr. Deitch shared essential tools to help doctors build their practice through social media marketing. Specifically, Deitch addressed the importance of social media marketing and provided details regarding set-up, content management and promotional techniques. This presentation taught attendees how to effectively take advantage of social media. Overall, the presentation was a success. By request, the Foundation will provide monthly contributors with a username and password to access a secure site featuring this program. If interested in receiving a copy of any of our latest webinars, please contact Gary Cuneo at: gcuneo@aol.com. Parker Seminars: F4CP's New Corporate Sponsor - Dillard’s Department Stores Dillard's Department Stores, a major retail chain with over 300 stores nationwide, has signed up as a major Foundation sponsor. They have agreed to sponsor the F4CP, specifically at Parker Seminars, January 19-21, 2012, by providing a number of events that support the 2012 theme, "Building a better you." Dillard's will host a fashion show and display an on-site boutique that offers styling and beauty consulting. Additionally, gift cards will be distributed and attendees will be encouraged to visit the Dillard's department store located at Fashion Show Mall to participate in additional events. Ten percent of all retail proceeds made during Parker program will be donated to the Foundation. The Foundation will also sponsor an appearance by General Becky Halstead and Dr. Mark Losack. Dr. Losack served in the Iraq campaign and will be signing autographs of a photo that displays him providing an adjustment directly in front of Saddam Hussein’s palace during Operation Enduring Freedom. The continued growth of the Foundation is dependent on more doctors getting involved. All of the monthly contributors can be found at the website by name, not amount. Encourage your list of contacts to join you in seizing this opportunity. Forward this newsletter to them. This campaign is making a difference by informing patients everywhere about the value in chiropractic care!!
